Strawberry Guava: A Cultivation Adventure in Progress
We are the only grower of Strawberry Guava on the entire island of Saipan. Our six precious bushes (5-6 feet tall) represent an ambitious agricultural experiment surrounded by 10-foot tall sword grass. What Makes Strawberry Guava Special
- Intense flavor combining guava and strawberry notes
- Small, bite-sized fruits perfect for snacking
- High vitamin C content exceeding most citrus fruits
- Unique aromatic profile that's instantly recognizable
- Beautiful red to yellow skin when ripe
The Challenge
Our bushes have shown occasional flowering but haven't fruited yet - a concerning pattern we're actively investigating:
Possible causes:- Pollination issues - lack of appropriate pollinators
- Environmental stress from sword grass competition
- Climate adaptation period still in progress
- Microclimate effects from the unique growing environment
What We're Doing
- Soil testing to ensure optimal nutrients
- Pollinator observation and attraction efforts
- Hand pollination trials during flowering
- Microclimate monitoring within the sword grass environment
The Promise
Once established, Strawberry Guava offers:
- Multiple harvests per year in tropical climates
- Exceptional flavor worth the cultivation challenges
- Unique island delicacy not available elsewhere
- Educational value in agricultural innovation
